Full Time Position: Assistant Herdsman

Martens Angus Farms is a seedstock operation that has been in the registered Angus business for over 20 years. We have grown from selling bulls private treaty to an annual production sale with both bulls and females. Our operation has 200 head of purebred Angus cows, and we raise corn, soybeans and hay on approximately 400 tillable acres.

Position primarily entails livestock care and husbandry: feeding, calving, processing, AI synchronization, and fencing. Our operation is expanding and looking for someone to develop our Angus herd and help bring it to the next level. For the right person this is an opportunity to grow with and contribute to the success of our operation.


Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Daily cattle chores and health checks

  • Processing newborn calves, chute work and record keeping

  • Preparations for annual production sale

  • Field work and operating different types of farm equipment and machinery


Requirements:

  • Experience handling and working with cattle

  • Enthusiastic about the beef cattle industry to learn and contribute to the day to day operation

  • Honest and trustworthy in how they conduct themselves on and off the farm

  • Dependable and hard working

  • Valid driver’s license


Preferred, but not required:

  • Beef cow-calf operation experience

  • Experience operating tractors and farm equipment

  • AI certified

  • Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certified

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary is competitive and dependent on candidates’ experience and skills

  • This is a full-time position (40 hours/week), a rotating weekend schedule, with compensating time off

  • 2 weeks paid sick time/vacation annually, after 6 months of employment
